The 2008 presidential election was held on November 4, 2008. The two major candidates were Republican U.S. Senator John McCain of Arizona and Democratic U.S. Senator Barack Obama of Illinois. The following is a list of the states with the lowest margins of victory (less than 5%) in 2008, sorted by the margin percentages and color-coded for John McCain or Barack Obama:
